Blogger Popups – How to Add a Popup to Blogger

Hey everyone :waving_hand: I’ve recently started blogging again (woohoo!) and I’m looking to grow my email list using popups. I heard OptinMonster is one of the best tools out there. Has anyone used it with Blogger before?

Would love to know:

  • Does it actually work with Blogger?
  • How hard is the integration?
  • Can I connect it to my ESP (I’m using Brevo right now)?
  • Any tips on designing popups that don’t annoy my readers?

TYIA!! :folded_hands:

Hey nightingaLea-01 – I’ve actually done this for two blogs I run, so YES! :100: OptinMonster works with Blogger and it’s not too hard once you get used to the layout.

:hammer_and_wrench: HOW TO ADD OPTINMONSTER TO BLOGGER – STEP BY STEP

To start the integration process of Blogger and Popupsmart, you need to have the following:

  • a Popupsmart account
  • a Blogger account.

1. To reach the embed code on Popupsmart, you need to sign in to your Popupsmart account and click Embed code.

2. Then, click on the copy to clipboard to copy the embed code to use.

3. Now, it’s time to go to your Blogger account. You will see your Posts page when you first sign in to your account.

You need to click Theme on the left sidebar.

4. After you click the Theme page, you need to click the dropdown icon next to the Customize button on the “My Theme” section.

5. There, you need to choose Edit HTML.

6. When you choose to edit HTML, you will view the editing page. You need to scroll down the page.

7. Paste the embed code before the tag and click the save icon on the right top of the page.

8. Go to the Popupsmart dashboard and hover over the profile icon to click “Websites.”

9. Click + New Website on the Websites page to add a new website.

10. Write your URL to the related place and click Save.

11. Here, you verified Popupsmart integration with Blogger. You can use your website for your popup campaigns now.

:bell:If you see your website unverified, click the “Unverified” button, and from the opening modal, click “Verify website,” then return to your dashboard and click “Refresh.”

For further details about the verification of your website, see How to Verify Your Website.

12. To create a campaign, you need to + New Campaign on the Campaigns page or your dashboard.

13. Then, give your campaign a name and choose your Blogger website among the choice. Click Save.

14. After you choose among the templates or a blank template for your campaign, you can freely design and customize your popup based on your brand image.

15. When you’ve done with all your actions, click the “Publish” button on the left-hand panel when done.

16. After publishing your campaign successfully, you will see a popup confirming it.

Now, you’re ready to increase your interaction on your blogs.

Let me know if you get stuck!

Yo Michelle, I’m with you on this. I run a car parts brand and was hella lost at first too :joy:.

I personally went with Elfsight for my BigCommerce popup—also free to start. What I liked:

:hammer_and_wrench: How I Set Up My Elfsight Popup App:

  1. Signed up at Elfsight’s BigCommerce Popup App
  2. Picked a template (they’ve got solid ones for promos & newsletters)
  3. Customized my style, triggers (I used time delay), and added a coupon code
  4. Got the HTML snippet and embedded it into Footer Scripts via BigCommerce Storefront > Footer Scripts

Pros:

  • No dev skills needed
  • Beautiful UI
  • Works well for simple campaigns

Cons:

  • Limited targeting (no exit intent unless you upgrade)
  • No A/B testing in free plan

Still, it’s working fine for me! :raising_hands:
Let me know if you want me to share my template code.

YESSS michelle-brnt laid it out perfectly :ok_hand:

Adding to that:

:test_tube: I TESTED 3 Popup Tools with Blogger:

  • OptinMonster (best for customization + integrations)
  • Popupsmart (easiest for beginners – no-code + really slick interface)
  • Picreel (meh, outdated UI IMO)

:chart_increasing: After switching from a sidebar form to an OptinMonster exit-intent popup, I went from 3% to 9.7% conversion rate on my newsletter signups!

:fire: TIP FOR MAX RESULTS: Use a lead magnet — free ebook, checklist, or discount code works like magic :light_bulb:

Love all the insight here! :blue_heart: Just to chime in with my Popupsmart hat on (yes, that’s where I work :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:), if anyone’s struggling with OptinMonster or wants a lighter tool, we also have a complete guide on this:

We even support:

  • Exit-intent on mobile
  • Targeting rules by URL, country, traffic source
  • Seamless Brevo, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, and HubSpot integrations.

(You don’t have to install any plugins—just insert one line of code like in OptinMonster.)

Happy to answer any Popupsmart-specific questions too!

Hey michelle-brntI’m using OptinMonster on both Shopify and Blogger, and it’s worked beautifully on both.

:brain: LESSONS I LEARNED:

  • Don’t show popups immediately. Wait at least 3–5 seconds or until scroll 50%.
  • Mobile traffic is huge—double-check mobile responsiveness!
  • I A/B tested headlines and found “Get 10% Off Your Next Post-Workout Smoothie” worked better than “Sign up for updates.”

:package: Planning to monetize your blog? Then pairing OptinMonster + email marketing is :fire:. Here’s a post I recommend reading if you’re into monetization: :link: How to Run a Successful Email Marketing Campaign

Just want to toss this in:
:hammer_and_wrench: You can also use Google Tag Manager to add your popup code to Blogger if you want more control or to A/B test multiple campaigns.
Might be overkill for starters, but if you’re scaling — it’s worth learning!

michelle-brnt I’m running a wellness blog on Blogger and added my OptinMonster popup last month — here’s how it went:

:white_check_mark: Gained 236 new subscribers in 30 days using a content upgrade offer (free PDF on lower back exercises)
:light_bulb: Used Yes/No campaign to segment users (Are you dealing with back pain? YES → optin, NO → show blog archive)
:chart_decreasing: Had 3 complaints about the popup being too aggressive, so I switched to slide-in only after 7 seconds — problem solved!

Stick with it! The results are so worth it when done right. :green_heart:

Che michelle-brnt :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: I’m using Popupsmart with Blogger on my travel site and love it, but I tried OptinMonster first and it’s definitely more robust if you need segmenting, targeting, or syncing with Brevo or Drip.

Best of luck and post your popup here when it’s live! Curious to see what style you go with :victory_hand:
