I’ve been using OptiMonk for a while now—great features and targeting, but now that my store’s monthly traffic has shot up to ~170,000 views, the cost is getting really steep ($249/month is pushing it). I’m on Shopify, and I need something scalable, still good with gamified popups, targeting, and integrations.
Any affordable OptiMonk alternatives you’d recommend?
Hey RockTheScale4, I totally get your pain point! I run a small e-commerce business too and started with OptiMonk’s free plan, which was okay at first. But once my traffic crossed 30K, I realized the paid plans don’t scale well.
If you want ad-free popups, unlimited campaigns, and solid targeting, I’d recommend trying Popupsmart. It’s beginner-friendly, no-code, and has a free plan for up to 5K views. I also like their teaser popup feature—it’s less annoying for users.
For a more affordable upgrade path, it’s worth a shot!
RockTheScale4, I’m a UX designer, and I recently switched a client from OptiMonk to Wisepops. Targeting and design freedom are stellar! BUT—it starts at $79/mo and goes up fast. You might still hit $250+ as you scale.
If you’re trying to avoid ballooning costs again, Popupsmart or Convertful might offer more breathing room.
Has anyone tried OptinMonster? Their base plan is cheap ($9/month), but it caps at 100K pageviews. Once I crossed that, I had to contact sales. No clear pricing—felt kinda bait-and-switchy.
Their features are decent—exit-intent, device targeting, etc.—but I just didn’t like being unsure about my bill month-to-month.
I’ve recently tested Convertful — super intuitive. Plans start at $7/month (10K views). Not as powerful as Popupsmart or Wisepops in advanced targeting, but for small-mid projects it’s solid.
Also… Unbounce is great if you need landing pages too. Pricey ($74/month for 20K views), but you get both popups + page builder.
I’m a dev and performance is a big deal for me. Popupsmart’s script has been the most lightweight in my tests—it doesn’t mess with page load like some others. If site speed is critical to you (which it should be for SEO), you’ll appreciate that.
Also: the popup builder doesn’t require coding, but still gives advanced control if you want to customize via custom JS.
I’ll just say this—Popupsmart has been the most budget-consistent platform I’ve tried. As a small agency juggling 4 Shopify clients, cost creep was a nightmare. Now with Popupsmart, predictable pricing + multi-domain support = sanity.
