Looking for a Cost-Effective Poptin Alternative With Solid Targeting?

I’m hunting for a Poptin alternative that has:

  • Better pricing scalability

  • Strong targeting (exit-intent, device-based, etc.)

  • Shopify integration (ideally plug-and-play)

  • Optional email automation

I’ve read some names like Popupsmart and OptiMonk, but would love to hear real experiences. :folded_hands:

Hey rRevved.up!

I ran into the same issue last quarter. Poptin’s performance was okay until we hit 80K+ views/month. Then came the load time problems. I now use Popupsmart and here’s my experience so far:

:+1: Pros:

  • Pageview-based pricing: Transparent and fair. I’m paying ~$57.5 for 100,000 views with unlimited popups and domains.

  • Advanced targeting: You get cookie-based, geolocation, HTML element, browser language targeting—all built-in.

  • Built-in email automation: Works seamlessly with Shopify. No extra tools required.

  • 15-day money-back guarantee

:-1: Cons:

  • The free plan (5K pageviews) is good for testing, but limited.

Also check their Shopify app if that’s your platform.

+1 for Popupsmart. As a dev, I also love how clean and fast-loading their popups are. Their targeting capabilities are just superior—especially compared to Poptin.

Also, OptiMonk is great if you need:

  • A ton of templates

  • Use-case library

  • Shopify-specific triggers (cart value, product targeting)

BUT, pricing becomes a pain. Their expert plan goes up to $249/mo for 500K pageviews.

UI-wise, Popupsmart has one of the most intuitive drag-and-drop editors I’ve used. I didn’t need any onboarding help. Compared to OptinMonster, which is more complex and starts at $9/month but limits you at 2.5K pageviews unless you upgrade, Popupsmart just felt easier.

Plus, I can instantly preview designs across devices.

Branding guy here. I’m using Wisepops for a few clients.

Pros:

  • Deep segmentation

  • Supports Klaviyo, Mailchimp, and custom APIs

  • Beautiful templates and feed feature

Cons:

  • Starts at $79/month, and scales aggressively.

If your traffic is big and budgets flexible, it’s powerful. But if you’re scaling and need predictability, Popupsmart wins.

Hi rRevved.up, I use Claspo for my small Pilates ecom site.

What I like:

  • Super budget-friendly

  • Pay-per-interaction model (cheaper than Poptin for me)

  • Easy widget setup

What’s missing:

  • No built-in email tool

  • Limited gamification features

For simple lead capture without breaking the bank, it works well.
