What's the Best Sleeknote Alternative? Any Recommendations?

Hello!!

We’ve used Sleeknote for a while now and it’s pretty good - lots of targeting options etc etc and the gamification stuff works well for us.

Pricing wise though, our traffic has increased massively from around 30,000 a month to 170,000 a month which is an amazing growth rate but our Sleeknote price increased from $86.99/month to $234.88/month. Getting to a point where I’m starting to have a hard time justifying in budget meetings and that.

So looking for some alternatives to Sleeknote something that can handle a good traffic load got to have some decent targeting features and hopefully won’t cost a fortune!! Btw, I’m on the Shopify platform. You’ve probably seen loads of options out there for this.

Would love to hear what you lot have used and does it work for you.

++ totally agree @RockTheScale4, the pricing headache and then Drip acquire Sleeknote, and also when there are issues the support crowd don’t seem to be as interested as they once were.

I’ve looked at other options, but e.g Optinmonster’s higher plan is 100,000 page views so what if traffic goes up?? They do custom plans, but I couldn’t find out the possible pricing, unfortunately, is anyone using it, or know?

Have you checked optimonk? Up to 10.000 pageviews for free, only bad thing is you can’t remove branding, @RockTheScale4, in your case since you’re paying for 170,000 pageviews, it would still cost $249/month, which makes it quite expensive. But for small businesses, I’d recommend Optimonk -it’s a great free option!

Yes that’s true. Scaling businesses can be challenging. You either choose a lower tier plan and miss out on key features, or you pay a high price. Here’s how I see the best options,

  • If you’re scaling fast & want predictable costs: Popupsmart
  • For enterprise-level & extensive Klaviyo integrations: Wisepops
  • If you’re very small (<10K views/month): OptiMonk’s free tier is great.

Hey, pricing definitely gets tricky at higher traffic levels like yours. Wisepops, while powerful (advanced targeting, Klaviyo integration, etc.), starts at around $79/month, but the pricing scales quickly as your traffic grows, likely putting you close to Sleeknote’s range or higher.

In this case, you can check out Popupsmart, which has been a solid alternative for me. I currently use it with similar traffic, and the pricing remains fair and stable. It includes Shopify integration, gamification, and targeting, comparable to Sleeknote in terms of functionality, yet easier to justify budget-wise.

If you’re looking for a more cost-effective alternative that still offers strong targeting and customization, you might want to check out Claspo. It has 7x lower pricing than Sleeknote, and instead of charging based on visitors, it counts pageviews, so you’re only paying for real widget interactions.

Hey all,

Good discussion going on, and congratulations @RockTheScale4 on the traffic spike! I understand your pain, the more pageviews, shouldn’t mean the more you lose.

So, I’m going to give you my honest and brutal opinion about the alternatives of sleeknote, let’s begin:

1. Popupsmart:

I actually use this one a ton, so here’s my take on it:

Pros:

  • Pricing that doesn’t make me want to throw my computer out the window: Transparent pricing even for higher traffic sites like yours.
  • All the targeting crap you need: Good segmentation, behavior tracking, and works with Shopify right out of the box without making you want to pull your hair out.
  • Got those game elements: Spin-to-win wheels, countdown timers, and popup designs that might actually convert instead of just pissing people off.
  • Interface that doesn’t require a PhD: Easy to use.
  • A/B testing that actually works: Easy to set up and actually tells you what’s converting better.

Cons:

  • Free version is tight on pageviews (great for testing the waters but useless at your level).

2. OptiMonk:

  • Pros: Pretty damn intuitive, works well for online stores. Has decent targeting options, those annoying exit-intent popups, and some game-like shit that customers apparently love.
  • Cons: Pricing is fucking ridiculous as your traffic grows. For your 170k visitors, you’re looking at about $249/month. Like, are you kidding me?
  • Best for: Tiny businesses that can stay under their free 10k pageviews/month. If you get bigger, you will get fucked.

3. OptinMonster:

  • Pros: Good tool with many targeting options, integrations, and all those exit-intent features that marketers get off to.
  • Cons: Their base plans max at 100k pageviews/month. If you go over that? “Enterprise pricing” which is corporate speak for “we’re going to charge whatever the hell we want and not tell you until after you’re hooked.”
  • Best for: Small to medium businesses who won’t blow past 100k.

4. Wisepops:

  • Pros: Fancy targeting and analytics that make the marketing nerds go wild, seems to kiss enterprise ass pretty well.
  • Cons: Starts at what seems reasonable ($79/month) but then bends you over a barrel when your traffic grows, potentially pushing you back into Sleeknote territory or worse.
  • Best for: Medium size businesses with a marketing budget the size of my apartment rent, who have boners for “advanced segmentation.”

5. Claspo:

  • Pros: Cheap, costs per interaction and not per visitor, 7x cheaper than Sleeknote (whatever that means exactly)
  • Cons: Probably missing some of the circle-jerk features like deep gamification that the other overpriced options have.
  • Best for: If you are a business that actually wants to watch your budget and doesn’t need all of the bells and whistles, just basic targeting and interaction.

Considering all your needs, affordability at scale, strong Shopify integration, powerful advanced targeting (exit-intent, behavioral targeting, etc.), gamification (spin-to-win and other engaging forms), A/B testing, and stability as your traffic scales, I’d genuinely recommend Popupsmart.

Wow this is great, thanks for all the details everyone! :raising_hands:

@fatih Haha love the brutal truth, thanks for that mate. Very helpful.

Popupsmart is looking like the winner for me right now with the balance of pricing, features and ease of use. But just to make sure before I pull the trigger a few quick questions for you guys who have used it:

1. Support & Reliability:
How’s the support when things go wrong? I liked Sleeknote’s speedy responses (before the Drip acquisition). Is Popupsmart consistent in that regard?
2. Gamification Effectiveness:
We’re seeing good results with Sleeknote’s gamification features (spin-to-win, scratch cards). Has anyone compared Popupsmart’s gamified popups vs Sleeknote’s? Do they perform as well or better in your experience?
3. Shopify Integration & Setup:
How easy was the Shopify integration, did it require any extra dev work or customization?

Hey SUPER happy you’re finding the thread useful! :raising_hands: I’ll give you the most transparent answers I possibly can, full disclosure, I’m part of the Popupsmart team, so I can def speak from an insider perspective rather than just as a regular customer.

1. Support & Reliability
Popupsmart’s support team is crushing it  when it comes to user feedback, especially with Shopify integrations (as you’ve probably spotted in that Shopify reviews screenshot below).

2. Gamification Feature Performance vs. Sleeknote
Popupsmart’s gamification features (spin-to-win, countdown timers, etc.) boost engagement and conversions! Our gamified popups are crazy customizable, work perfectly on mobile, and users love how easy they are to set up and how they keep visitors engaged. If gamification is a big part of ur business strategy, Popupsmart can 100% support and likely even level up your results!!

3. Shopify Integration & Setup
Popupsmart’s Shopify integration is the definition of plug-and-play! You don’t need any extra dev resources or complicated customizations just install the Shopify app, set your preferences, and voila, you’re launching popups within minutes!! It’s specifically designed to be super straightforward, so your setup experience should be quick and painless.

I hope that clears everything up for you!! If you’ve got ANY other questions or concerns, just throw them my way. :+1:

Since most of you guys have already mentioned the some alternatives, I wanted to quickly throw in some other good Sleeknote alternatives that nobody’s talking about yet. These might be good for anyone still weighing their options:

Convertful :high_voltage:

Convertful is absolutely crushing it for lead capture and has some seriously impressive gamification features like those spin-to-win wheels! Price-wise, it sits perfectly between Sleeknote and Popupsmart.

Super easy drag & drop editor, versatile embedded popups, solid targeting and triggering options, and a really affordable starter plan at just $7 for 10k views!

Unbounce :pushpin:

This isn’t just a popup tool, it’s a whole landing-page & conversion platform! If you need both popups AND landing pages, this could be your perfect match.

TONS of popup and landing-page templates, powerful A/B testing capabilities, and easy triggers like exit-intent, after-scroll, and on-click.

Bu it gets pretty expensive if popups are your main focus ($74/month for just 20k views). Probably overkill if all you’re after is popup functionality.

Thrive Leads (WordPress only)

This is an incredible WordPress-only plugin that’s perfect for WP-focused businesses!!

Amazing variety of popup styles, really cool content locking feature, powerful segmentation options, strong customization capabilities.

ONLY works for WordPress sites, pricing is a bit steep ($99/year) considering you can only use it on one platform, and the interface can feel a bit overwhelming at first.

Picreel

Picreel is surprisingly budget-friendly, especially if you’re just getting started or don’t need super advanced features.

Interactive popup options (timers, CTA buttons), super affordable pricing ($9.99/month for 10k monthly visitors :fire:), basic targeting and integration options.

Poptin

A solid alternative with great features, but watch out - it gets pricey FAST when you scale up!

Advanced targeting capabilities (exit-intent, behavioral triggers), good analytics dashboard, decent popup variety.

The free plan is super limited (just 1K views/month :grimacing:), and the advanced options jump up in price quickly, which probably won’t work for @RockTheScale4 's 170k views/month.

The pricing vs. feature debate is always tricky, especially when traffic scales.

I’ve used Wisepops extensively, and while their segmentation and targeting capabilities are excellent, the cost can escalate rapidly as your traffic grows, which became hard to justify at higher volumes.

I have created this detailed popup builder comparison table to help clearly summarize the overall situation for those people who are still unsure.

OptinMonster No $9 – $49/mo (2.5k – 100k PV) Enterprise for 100k+ Yes (Spin-to-win) Yes (Embed/plugin) Extensive integrations, advanced triggers, well-known brand No free plan, custom pricing for 100k+ PV
Wisepops No Starts at $79/mo (scales with traffic) Yes (Advanced) Yes Powerful segmentation, strong e-com integrations Expensive at scale, not budget-friendly
Convertful No Starts at $7/mo (~10k PV) Yes (Spin-to-win) Yes (Embed script) Affordable entry, good drag-and-drop editor Must upgrade after 10k PV, less known
