Wix Popups - How to add popups to my Wix website?

I’ve been using Wix’s built-in Lightbox for a few months now, and while it’s okay for really basic stuff (like welcome messages or simple announcements), I’m looking for something way more advanced.

Here’s what I’m hoping to find:

  • Exit-intent popups

  • Better mobile optimization

  • Behavioral targeting (like scroll, time-on-site, source, etc.)

  • Faster load times

  • Email marketing integrations (like Mailchimp, Klaviyo)

Anyone using an alternative to Wix’s Lightbox? Would love to hear what’s working for you!

Hey Burak here :waving_hand: I went through the same journey last year.

I switched to Popupsmart and honestly, it’s been a total win.

Why I Chose Popupsmart for Wix:

  • No plugin needed = lightning-fast load time.

  • 1-line embed code – just paste it in Wix custom code (footer), done.

  • Exit-intent, scroll, inactivity, referral-based triggers – all supported.

  • Clean UI with mobile/desktop-specific popup designs.

  • Works beautifully with Mailchimp, Hubspot, Klaviyo, even Shopify if you cross-integrate.

You can start free for 5,000 pageviews/month, which is super generous compared to others.

+1 for Popupsmart :green_heart:

I run a small e-store selling physiotherapy and Pilates gear, and I really care about smooth, non-intrusive UX. Popupsmart helped me:

  • Show popups only on specific product pages

  • Add gamified spin-the-wheel campaigns

  • Customize every popup to match my branding

The display conditions are really flexible. I even set up a teaser popup that only expands on hover – super subtle.

If you’re in health, wellness, or ecomm, Popupsmart is :fire:

If you’re scaling or doing CRO seriously, I highly recommend comparing pricing before diving in.

Here’s a snapshot I put together:

Tool Free Plan Pricing (50k PV) Integrations Gamification Load Speed
Popupsmart Yes (5K PV) $32.5/mo All major CMS Yes Blazing
OptiMonk Yes (10K PV) $99/mo All CMS Yes Medium
Wisepops No $79+/mo Shopify, WP, more Yes Fast
Elfsight Yes Varies (Widget) HTML, Wix Some Great
Getsitecontrol Yes From $41/mo Wix App Market Yes Decent

Popupsmart is the most balanced if you want great UX + affordability. OptiMonk’s good but steeper price.

Developer POV :rocket:

Popupsmart loads in ~120ms. Zero plugin dependency = no JS conflicts. I had issues with Getsitecontrol on animation lags – especially on mobile.

Also: Popupsmart doesn’t break Wix themes. Embedded via Wix’s Custom Code section (Body-end) and it just works.

I tested Elfsight and Popupsmart back-to-back.
Elfsight is solid if you want visual flexibility. Tons of popup types: contact forms, cookie notices, video popups, etc. But customization can get overwhelming.
Popupsmart felt more focused for lead gen – great templates, targeting logic, and analytics that actually help.

From a UX nerd: Popupsmart lets you:

  • Design for mobile vs desktop separately

  • Add A/B tests easily

  • Preview how the popup looks live before publishing

  • And yes – no annoying reloads like Wix Lightboxes

Also, the analytics on Popupsmart let me track conversions without needing GA4.

Tried Popupsmart, Elfsight, and OptiMonk while on the road. OptiMonk has decent templates, but the UI can get clunky. Plus, the $99/month is a lot if you’re just starting.
Popupsmart is lightweight, looks clean, and is easy to tweak on mobile. Plus it works great even with a slow connection.
